NEDO database

The NEDO database was constructed to make available sequence data of cDNA clones from the Kazusa DNA Research Institute human spleen cDNA library, which was determined by the NEDO human cDNA sequencing project. Although the cDNA clones provided by other groups for the NEDO project were generated by the "oligo-capping" method, the cDNAs supplied by Kazusa DNA Research Institute were generated by conventional methods and strictly size-selected from a cDNA library of adult human spleen. Consequently, not all of our cDNAs may be full-length, though all possess relatively long cDNA inserts, whose average size is about 4.5 kb. In this project, cDNAs having unknown end sequences and high protein-coding probability at their 5' ends were selected and sequenced. Please remember that the clone selection method is not identical to that of the Kazusa human cDNA sequencing project. This is the reason why we designate cDNA clones obtained through the NEDO project with the prefix FLJ followed by a five-digit number and cDNAs discovered by the Kazusa cDNA sequencing project by the prefix KIAA followed by a four-digit number.

Regarding distribution of KIAA/FLJ cDNA clones:

Till now, we have distributed as many as 7,000 KIAA/FLJ cDNA clones free of charge to research communities all over the world. We are very happy to learn that a large number of valuable research papers have consequently been published that described functions associated with the gene(s) contained in the KIAA/FLJ clones distributed. Starting January 2007, however, we have to ask you to pay the shipping and handling costs on the per-clone basis. This is partly because we have recently begun distribution of protein-expressing clones for value. Please understand our new policy and refer to the ordering information when requesting our cDNA clone(s).

The distribution fee of KIAA/FLJ cDNA clones will be revised
from : Japanese ¥ 15,000/clone or US$ 150/clone
to : Japanese ¥ 20,000/clone or US$ 200/clone from December 9, 2009 (JST).

KOP clones

Flexi ORF clone which includes the defined open reading frame is also available for production of the recombinant protein.
Please refer to the Kazusa ORFeome Project (KOP).

Notice to retrievers of FLJ sequences

The NEDO project is a joint program of three different research institutes; The University of Tokyo, Helix Research Institute, and Kazusa DNA Research Institute. You might not find FLJ clone of interest at our NEDO page in which only the clones we analyzed are listed.

We would recommend you firstly to visit a DDBJ registration list that helps you to understand which FLJ clones or which GenBank/EMBL/DDBJ accession number was obtained by which one of the three institutes mentioned above.
FLJ clones obtained by The University of Tokyo or Helix Research Institute are distributed by NITE (National Institute of Technology and Evaluation; mail address: dna@nbrc.nite.go.jp). We hope that you could contact to the appropriate institute based on this information.
