Laboratory of Plant Genome Informatics

About our research

Purpose of our research

All the parts of the genome are not necessarily for organism. Really important parts (that is to say the genes) in their genome don't understand before searching. We are researching to examine what and where the genes on DNA using computers.

Feature of our research

We have performed several kinds of plants genome sequences. The genome analysis of Arabidopsis thaliana to which the research is the most advanced in plant and Lotus japonicus were finished, and the genome of tomato and eucalyptus are being advanced now. We continue the effort to look for the plant genes from acquired data.

Expected fields of application

Comparing all of the genes between species, it can be expected to squeeze the difference of the genes to which feature of each plant has been decided. Thus, we will obtain basic knowledge to breed strong farm products of sickness and drought. Moreover, we guess how plant has evolved in the history of the long earth and clarify the relation of each other.

Our research projects

  1. analyse where the genes are on the genome using computer
  2. We are synthesized and assembled each genes to retrieve the similar sequences or the pattern on the genes.

  3. examine the gene function
  4. The protein function made from the genes in the cell are examined from various sides by computer analysis. It is one of important work to collect the informations reported by scientist all over the world and to available it as the data base to them.

  5. collection and analysis of "Codon" usage on DNA
  6. Codon used in "Translation" that converts information on the gene into the protein are a little different according to species. This information on a lot of species are calculated and the results are opened to public data base. This data base is used all over the world for experimentally amplify the genetic sequence and the indicator when proteins are industrially produced.
